Little things that I noticed today

Baby Sun Rose

Until today I had no idea what this plant was. Mary bought is as part of a hanging planter group of plants last Spring and this one was still alive in the Autum, so she brought it into the house exepecting it to die over the Winter. We were surprised that it not only didn't die, but seems to be doing well as an indoor plant and hangs in our dining room next to a sliding glass door.

Getting out from the table today I caught a glimpse of pink out of the corner of my eye. I looked closer and was happy to discover a little pink flower had bloomed at the end of one of the hanging branches. I looked the plant up and it's a "Baby Sun Rose". It's flowers only appear for a few days, and only bloom when in sunlight, closing at night or if it's a grey day. I wonder how many of these little guys have been hanging there behind my head without me noticing them.

Side note: I don't know why they call it a Rose, the flower does not resemble a Rose. Maybe because the petals are rose colored? But some of the vaieties are magenta. Maybe it's because the flowers only open up in sunlight? Like "The flowers opened up once the sun rose."
